IPC Systems in Newark, NY, is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to design, implement, and improve IPC’s core and edge networking environments. You will work with Product Management, Engineering, and Operations to resolve complex challenges and support service expansion globally.

Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain network design standards, engineering guidelines, and configuration templates for IPC’s global network infrastructure.
- Design and enhance network solutions supporting IPC’s data services, voice services, data centers, and internal management networks.
- Develop deep knowledge to function as a Subject Matter Expert for assigned areas.
- Partner with Product Management and other Engineering teams to develop and improve products and services.
- Conduct proof-of-concept testing, technology evaluations, and vendor certification activities for new platforms.
- Provide technical guidance for complex operational issues and expansion projects.

The Senior Design Engineer is an experienced network engineering professional responsible for designing, implementing, and improving IPC’s core and edge networking environments. This role combines hands-on network design, technical problem-solving, standards development, and operational support to deliver scalable, resilient, and secure network services globally.
Working across Product Management, Engineering, and Operations teams, this individual will contribute to the ongoing development of IPC’s networking infrastructure by resolving complex technical challenges, supporting new service development, delivering infrastructure expansion projects, and evaluating relevant technologies.
- Develop and maintain network design standards, engineering guidelines, and configuration templates for IPC’s global network infrastructure.
- Design and enhance network solutions supporting IPC’s data services, voice services, data centers, and internal management networks.
- Develop deep knowledge in existing designs, platforms and technologies to be able to function as a Subject Matter Expert for assigned areas.
- Partner with Product Management and other Engineering teams to develop and improve new and existing products and services.
- Conduct proof-of-concept testing, technology evaluations, and vendor certification activities for new hardware and software platforms.
- Provide technical guidance for complex operational issues, lifecycle engineering initiatives, customer requirements and infrastructure expansion projects.
- Contribute to network planning activities, including capacity management, POP deployments, and core infrastructure upgrades.
- Evaluate relevant technologies and recommend solutions that align with defined business and customer requirements.
- Create technical documentation, operational procedures, and training materials to support service deployment and operational readiness.
- Share technical knowledge and provide guidance to Operations and Engineering colleagues.
- Serve as a senior technical resource for network design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
As Senior Design Engineer, you will contribute to the design and continued improvement of IPC’s global network infrastructure. Your technical expertise will support the scalability, reliability, and performance of the services our clients depend on every day.
- Delivery of scalable network designs that meet defined business and technical requirements.
- Successful implementation and operational adoption of new technologies and services.
- Measurable improvements in network resiliency, performance, and operational efficiency.
- Effective contribution to network capacity planning and infrastructure delivery.
- Reduction of technical risk through consistent engineering standards and practices.
- Effective collaboration with Product, Operations, and Engineering teams to deliver agreed objectives.
- Quality, accuracy, and usability of technical documentation, training, and knowledge sharing.
- 10+ years of network engineering experience, including substantial experience with IP routing and Metro Ethernet environments.
- Experience designing and supporting complex enterprise or service-provider networks using NAT, VPNs, firewalls, and hybrid cloud connectivity.
- Advanced knowledge of Layer 3 networking, including IP routing, IP multicast, MPLS, BGP VPNs, network design, and troubleshooting.
- Advanced knowledge of Layer 2 networking, including Metro Ethernet, Ethernet over MPLS, and VPLS technologies.
- Advanced experience with routing protocols, including BGP, OSPF, and IS-IS.
- Strong understanding of IP addressing (Public and Private) for Unicast and Multicast applications.
- Strong knowledge of Quality-of-Service technologies, including Policing/Shaping, WRED, DSCP and MPLS CoS.
- Experience with Cisco routing and switching platforms, including ASR, ISR, Catalyst, Nexus and equivalent technologies.
- Experience with Nokia Service Router platforms, including the 7750-SR, 7210-SAS, and 7705-SAR families.
- Experience with advanced networking element in AWS (e.g. Transit GW, Direct Connect, Internet Gateway, Network LB, etc)
- Strong network solution design and implementation experience.
- Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects while maintaining a high standard of quality.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience supporting global service-provider, carrier, or financial-services networking environments.
- Experience supporting low-latency financial-market connectivity solutions, exchange market-data feeds, or financial extranets.
- Experience supporting financial-services voice technologies such as trader voice, private wires, hoot-and-holler systems, and voice-recording solutions.
- Experience with other Public Cloud environments (Azure, GCP) and integration with Private Networks.
- Experience with implementing and troubleshooting IPSEC VPNs
- Experience with complex Internet routing designs (e.g. BGP multi-home)
- Experience with Fortinet firewalls and management solutions, including FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer, and FortiAuthenticator.
- Experience with Arista multilayer switching platforms.
- Experience with deployment of virtual network appliances.
- Working knowledge of Proxy and Load Balancing technologies and operations.
- Working knowledge of SD-WAN and SDN technologies
- Working knowledge of voice networking technologies, including SIP, RTP, SBCs, and audio bridge solutions.
- Working knowledge of optical and Layer 1 networking technologies, including DWDM and optical transport systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- Relevant industry certification such as CCNP, CCSP, or equivalent; CCIE is advantageous.
- Experience preparing technical recommendations for new products, services, or infrastructure improvements.
- Experience working across both network design/architecture and operational support environments.
