The Space and Defense Group operates out of East Aurora, NY and is seeking a Senior Design Drafter to join a dynamic, collaborative team. This role reports directly to the Drafting Supervisor and is based onsite in Buffalo, NY.
Responsibilities
- Communicate with all functional disciplines to discuss design, drawing, and fabrication requirements.
- Lead the graphical evolution of new products from layout to drawings, ensuring correct proportions, internal component arrangement, dimensional details, and material/process suggestions.
- Produce final drawings or 3D/Solid models independently or in collaboration with others.
- Use CAD systems to create drawings and layouts for better visualization, clearance checks, and manufacturing information for CAM operations.
- Support Engineering, Sales, and Program Management for bid and proposal efforts by providing layouts and assemblies expediently, and compiling full drafting submittal data for customer transmittal.
- Organize and plan the required drawings to represent the design, overseeing drafting personnel, checking detail drawings for completeness and accuracy, and ensuring overall product design integrity.
- Coordinate projects, maintain sensitivity to schedule requirements, and occasionally direct others in drawing efforts.
- Participate in status review meetings and provide effort estimates.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Mechanical Technology or a related major.
- 3+ years of drafting/design leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience as a technical lead or SME for drafting standards, drawing quality, and design best practices.
- Ability to mentor, train, and evaluate junior and mid‑level drafters.
- Comprehensive knowledge of drafting practices, machine shop practices, part fabrication methods, descriptive geometry, dimensioning, and geometric tolerancing.
- Strong mechanical CAD (MCAD) skills; proficiency with Siemens NX and/or Teamcenter PLM preferred.
- Above‑average design skills, creative and investigative abilities, and strong organization.
- Basic understanding of material properties, stress, and thermal effects.
- Strong mechanical hardware design skills for kinematic mechanisms and packaging in customer‑defined envelopes.
Preferred Experience
- 10+ years of leadership experience as a technical authority in drafting, mentoring personnel, and leading drafting efforts on complex programs.
- Expert knowledge of aerospace drafting standards (ASME Y14.5, ASME Y14 series, MIL‑STD) and related specifications.
- Experience in configuration‑controlled environments with ECO/ECR processes and PLM systems like Teamcenter.
- Advanced tolerance analysis, DFM/DFA, and precision mechanical design in aerospace applications.
- Proven ability to lead design reviews, drive standardization, and champion continuous improvement initiatives within drafting functions.
- Strong program execution skills, including effort estimation, schedule management, and delivery of high‑quality technical data packages.

Compensation
The base salary range reflects the low and high ends of Moog’s salary range for this position in Buffalo, NY. Actual salaries may vary based on location, experience, and performance. The advertised range is a component of the total compensation package, which may include additional rewards such as annual bonuses and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
