Job summary

Moog Inc. in Buffalo, NY is seeking a Senior Design Drafter to join our Space team. You will report to the Drafting Supervisor and work onsite to develop and finalize drawings and 3D models for aerospace-grade products.

You will lead drafting activities, mentor junior drafters, and collaborate with engineering, sales, and program management to support bids and manufacturing. Strong CAD skills and aerospace drafting knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Mechanical Technology or related field required.
  • 3+ years of drafting/design leadership in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven SME in drafting standards, drawing quality, and best practices.
  • Ability to mentor and develop junior/mid-level drafters.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical CAD and tolerance analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with all disciplines on design, drawing, or fabrication requirements.
  • Lead graphical evolution of new products from layout to drawings with proper dimensions and materials.
  • Produce final drawings or 3D/Solid models independently or with others.
  • Use CAD to generate drawings for CAM operations and manufacturing needs.
  • Support engineering, sales, and program management with layouts for bids and proposals.
  • Organize drawings and manage schedules, guiding drafting personnel as needed.
  • Coordinate project(s) and estimate level of effort; participate in status reviews.

Our Space team in East Aurora, NY is looking for a Senior Design Drafter to join their dynamic team. You will report directly to the Drafting Supervisor and enjoy an on-site, collaborative working environment.

As our Senior Design Drafter, you will make critical contributions by holding responsibility for:

  • Communicating with all functional disciplines to discuss design, drawing or fabrication requirements.

  • Leading the graphical evolution of new products from layout to drawings including correctness of proportion, arrangement of internal components, necessary dimensional information and material and/or process suggestions.

  • Producing final drawings or 3D/Solid models independently or in conjunction with others.

  • Utilizing the Computer Aided Design (CAD) System to produce a variety of drawings and layouts to enable better visualization, clearance checks, and provide manufacturing information for Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) operations.

  • Support Engineering, Sales, and Program Management for bid and proposal efforts by providing layouts and assemblies in an expedient manner including collecting all Drafting submittal data into a complete package ready for transmittal to the customer.

  • Organizing and planning of the number and types of drawings required to represent the design, exercising technical cognizance over Drafting personnel when assigned, checking detail drawings for completeness and accuracy and general follow through on product design.

  • Coordinating of project(s) and must be sensitive to schedule requirements, sometimes directing others in this effort.

  • Participating in status review meetings and provide estimates on level of effort.

Qualifications
  • Associates Mechanical Technology or relevant major is required

  • 3+ years of drafting/design leadership experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Demonstrated experience serving as a technical lead or subject matter expert (SME) for drafting standards, drawing quality, and design best practices

  • Proven ability to mentor, train, and develop junior and mid-level drafters, including formal/informal coaching and performance feedback

  • Possess a comprehensive knowledge of good drafting practices and techniques, machine shop practices, part fabrication methods, mathematics through descriptive geometry, dimensioning techniques, and geometric tolerancing

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical CAD (MCAD) tools is required. Proficiency with Siemens NX and/or Teamcenter PLM is preferred

  • Possess above average design skills, strong creative and investigative skills, and be well structured and organized

  • Familiarization of basic properties and strength of materials as well as stress and thermal effects is also required

  • Strong understanding of mechanical hardware design for kinematic mechanisms and packaging them in customer defined envelopes

Preferred Experience
  • 10 + years of demonstrated leadership experience serving as a technical authority, mentoring drafting personnel, and leading drafting efforts on complex programs

  • Expert knowledge of aerospace drafting standards including ASME Y14.5, ASME Y14 series, MIL-STD, and related specifications

  • Extensive experience working in configuration-controlled environments with ECO/ECR processes and PLM systems such as Teamcenter

  • Advanced understanding of tolerance analysis, DFM/DFA, and precision mechanical design in aerospace applications

  • Proven ability to lead design reviews, drive standardization, and support continuous improvement initiatives within drafting functions

  • Strong program execution skills, including estimating effort, managing schedules, and delivering high-quality technical data packages

Salary Range Transparency

Buffalo, NY $85,000.00-$105,000.00 Annually

Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees.
