- Job Title: Design Drafter
- Reporting To: Drafting Supervisor
- Work Schedule: On‑site – Buffalo, NY
- Location: East Aurora, NY (Buffalo‑area)
Responsibilities
- Communicate with all functional disciplines to discuss design, drawing, or fabrication requirements.
- Lead the graphical evolution of new products from layout to drawings, ensuring correct proportion, internal component arrangement, dimensional information, and material/process suggestions.
- Produce final drawings or 3D/solid models independently or in conjunction with others.
- Utilize the Computer Aided Design (CAD) system to create a variety of drawings and layouts to enable better visualization, clearance checks, and provide manufacturing information for CAM operations.
- Support Engineering, Sales, and Program Management for bid and proposal efforts by providing layouts and assemblies.
- Organize and plan the number and types of drawings required to represent the design, exercising technical cognizance over drafting personnel when assigned, checking detail drawings for completeness and accuracy, and providing general follow‑through on product design.
- Coordinate project(s), participate in status review meetings, and provide estimates on the level of effort.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Mechanical Technology or a related major.
- At least 3 years of drafting/design experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of good drafting practices, machine shop practices, part fabrication methods, descriptive geometry, dimensioning techniques, and geometric tolerancing.
- Strong mechanical CAD (MCAD) skills; proficiency with Siemens NX and/or Teamcenter PLM preferred.
- Above‑average design skills, creative and investigative abilities, and strong organization.
- Familiarity with basic properties and strengths of materials, as well as stress and thermal effects.
- Strong understanding of mechanical hardware design for kinematic mechanisms and packaging within customer‑defined envelopes.
- Preferred: demonstrated leadership experience mentoring drafting personnel and leading small project efforts; aerospace drafting standards (ASME Y14.5, MIL‑STD); configuration‑controlled environments (ECO/ECR, PLM); Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and tolerance analysis in precision aerospace applications; collaboration across functions; environmental considerations (shock, vibration, thermal); exposure to actuation systems, servo mechanisms, or precision motion control products; ITAR or export‑controlled environments.

Salary & Location
$75,000.00 – $95,000.00 annually in Buffalo, NY. Salary range is one component of Moog's total compensation package.
