KODIAK Construction Recruiting & Staffing in Houston is hiring a Senior Design Checker to join the Design & Drafting team supporting complex engineered equipment. You will review 3D models, drawings, layouts, and BOMs to ensure they meet project requirements and internal standards.

The ideal candidate has 12+ years of multidisciplinary design experience, excels with CAD tools (SolidWorks, CATIA, Pro/ENGINEER), and can communicate corrections clearly to designers and engineers.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of relevant design experience across mechanical, structural, electrical, or related equipment.
• Experience in design checking, drawing review, or verification.
• Hands-on with 3D modeling and CAD/design software.
• Knowledge of package/plant designs and equipment layouts.
• Familiar with NEC, IEC, ASME, AWS, OSHA and building codes.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive technical reviews of drawings for compliance with design and manufacturing standards.
• Verify BOMs and dimensions; ensure design intent is clear for downstream teams.
• Check weld symbols and structural beam selections for appropriateness.
• Review electrical details: voltages, wire sizes, breaker sizes.
• Collaborate in multidisciplinary 3D model reviews and develop drafting standards.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Design Checker to join a growing Design & Drafting team supporting complex engineered and manufactured equipment.

This is a senior-level technical role responsible for reviewing and verifying 3D models, engineering drawings, layouts, BOMs, dimensions, and design details to ensure they meet project requirements, internal design standards, manufacturing needs, and applicable industry codes.

The ideal candidate brings extensive multidisciplinary design experience and understands how mechanical, structural, electrical, controls, piping, fabrication, installation, and equipment-access requirements come together in a production-ready design.

What You'll Do

• Perform comprehensive technical reviews of engineering and design drawings for compliance with design, manufacturing, maintenance, installation, operation, safety, and clearance requirements.
• Review layouts and section views for accurate BOMs, dimensions, callouts, notes, and design details.
• Verify dimensions and component relationships to minimize tolerance stack-up issues.
• Review drawings for compliance with established CAD and drafting standards, including borders, blocks, text, notes, callouts, and view requirements.
• Ensure drawings clearly and accurately communicate design intent to downstream teams.
• Verify weld symbols and structural beam selections are appropriate for their intended applications.
• Review electrical design details, including voltages, wire sizes, and breaker sizes, for appropriate application.
• Verify equipment layouts provide appropriate access, serviceability, maintenance clearances, and egress.
• Confirm approved value-engineering alternatives are properly incorporated into design drawings.
• Participate in multidisciplinary 3D model reviews.
• Help develop, improve, document, and publish departmental design and drafting practices and standards.
• Ensure design-checking processes are consistently followed from project inception through completion.
• Partner with designers, engineers, manufacturing, and other stakeholders to identify and resolve design discrepancies before drawings are released.

What We're Looking For

• 12+ years of relevant design experience across mechanical, structural, electrical, controls, or related engineered/manufactured equipment.
• Significant experience performing design checking, drawing review, or senior-level design verification.
• Hands-on experience with 3D modeling and CAD/design software.
• Advanced understanding of package/plant designs and equipment layouts.
• Broad technical knowledge of mechanical, structural, electrical, and controls systems.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing, installation, maintenance, operational, safety, and equipment-clearance requirements.
• Ability to review detailed drawings for dimensional accuracy, manufacturability, and design intent.
• Knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards, including NEC, IEC, ASME, AISC, AWS, UMC, OSHA, and building codes.
• Ability to work independently, identify technical issues, and communicate corrections effectively with designers and engineers.
• Strong attention to detail and a high level of accountability for drawing quality.

Preferred Experience

Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable:

• SolidWorks
• CATIA
• Pro/ENGINEER (Pro-E)
• Packaged or modular equipment
• Structural and fabrication drawings

Education

• High school diploma required
• Associate degree in a technical discipline or 3D/CAD design is a plus.
