Job summary

Senior DER Electrical Engineer (Solar, Storage + Design)

We’re looking for a Senior DER Engineer to lead engineering and project development for distributed energy projects across the West. These are C&I scale solar projects (Av. 1 MW, Schools, Municipalities, State and Local Gov + Commercial sites), within a lean, talented team.

This is a senior technical leadership role covering solar, energy storage and EV/vehicle electrification projects, with responsibility for ensuring projects are technically sound, construction-ready and designed/delivered to a high standard.

What you’ll do

• Act as the senior engineering leader and technical expert for DER projects across the West.
• Lead and develop the regional engineering and project development team.
• Oversee the design of solar, energy storage and EV projects from development through active construction.
• Establish and maintain engineering processes, standards and quality-control procedures.
• Review engineering work, subcontractor scopes and pricing to identify risks, gaps and potential issues.
• Conduct site walks and evaluate electrical infrastructure, equipment and site conditions as required.
• Provide technical guidance on design changes, specifications, risk mitigation and project requirements.
• Develop and oversee project budgets and timelines.
• Work closely with sales, project development, contractors, suppliers and other internal teams.
• Train and mentor engineering staff and support continuous improvement of engineering processes.

What we’re looking for

Must-haves:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 8+ years of engineering experience, ideally within Distributed Energy Resources (DER).
• Experience with solar, energy storage and/or EV infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of NEC and applicable building/design codes, including CalGreen.
• Knowledge of utility and AHJ requirements, including DSA.
• Previous experience leading, managing or developing electrical design engineering teams.
• Strong project management, organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Willingness and ability to conduct project/site walks across the region.

The ideal candidate

You’re a technically strong electrical engineer who has progressed into a senior engineering or engineering leadership position. You understand distributed energy projects from a practical, project-delivery perspective and can move comfortably between detailed technical issues, project risk, budgets, contractors and team leadership.
