Our client is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support the development and delivery of utility-scale renewable energy projects, with a particular focus on solar generation and battery energy storage.
The role will combine hands‑on electrical engineering with interconnection management, technical due diligence, project coordination, and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from early‑stage feasibility and interconnection through detailed design, construction, and project delivery.
A key element of the position will be taking ownership of interconnection activities, including applications, technical studies, agreements, milestone requirements, and associated risks. The Electrical Engineer will also coordinate closely with external engineering consultants, utilities, transmission providers, contractors, project managers, and internal technical teams.
This position would suit an engineer who is comfortable working across both technical and commercial project considerations and who can independently manage multiple workstreams within a fast‑moving renewable energy environment.

Key Responsibilities
1. Electrical Engineering, Design & Technical Analysis
- Perform electrical engineering design, technical reviews, and design optimisation activities for utility‑scale renewable energy projects.
- Develop and review electrical drawings, single‑line diagrams, system specifications, equipment requirements, and related engineering documentation.
- Use relevant engineering and modelling software to undertake electrical design and system analysis.
- Support the technical evaluation of solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage systems.
- Conduct or support site assessments, feasibility evaluations, system performance reviews, and technical due diligence.
- Analyse proposed system configurations and identify opportunities to improve technical performance, reliability, constructability, or cost effectiveness.
- Review engineering deliverables produced by external consultants and identify technical issues, omissions, or potential project impacts.
- Evaluate the electrical implications of proposed design changes and project requirements.
- Establish realistic engineering deliverables and communicate expected design timelines to project teams, consultants, and contractors.
- Review interconnection‑related engineering documentation and assess how study results or utility requirements may affect the project design.
2. Grid Interconnection & Transmission
- Take a lead role in the preparation, coordination, and submission of interconnection applications for renewable energy projects.
- Manage communication with transmission providers, utilities, and other relevant grid stakeholders throughout the interconnection process.
- Track interconnection studies, milestones, deliverables, approvals, and associated commercial requirements.
- Evaluate potential risks relating to interconnection costs, schedules, network upgrades, regulatory requirements, and project viability.
- Develop mitigation strategies for interconnection risks and communicate potential impacts to project leadership.
- Support the negotiation, administration, and management of interconnection agreements.
- Coordinate with legal advisers, engineering consultants, utilities, and other external parties on interconnection matters.
- Review technical findings associated with feasibility studies, system impact studies, facilities studies, and subsequent interconnection stages.
- Provide technical input into steady‑state, short‑circuit, stability, and other applicable transmission or interconnection analyses.
- Review proposed interconnection facilities, network upgrades, and contingent upgrades and assess their potential implications for project delivery.
- Prepare or review power‑flow and stability models, technical specifications, interconnection documentation, and electrical diagrams.
- Interpret applicable utility, transmission, and market requirements when preparing interconnection submissions.
- Research and interpret relevant utility and regional transmission organisation / independent system operator tariffs and requirements.
- Monitor interconnection‑related payments, deadlines, milestones, and critical‑path activities.
- Maintain clear visibility of interconnection schedules, risks, dependencies, and outstanding actions.
3. Project & Cross‑Functional Coordination
- Work closely with Project Managers and wider project teams on the technical delivery of renewable energy developments.
- Provide engineering input throughout project development, design, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
- Support technical design reviews and help ensure engineering decisions remain aligned with project scope, budget, schedule, and performance requirements.
- Coordinate with engineering consultants, EPC contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, utilities, and other project stakeholders.
- Assist with technical elements of project proposals, bid evaluations, contractor assessments, and contract preparation.
- Support monitoring of engineering deliverables and project progress against established budgets and schedules.
- Identify technical or engineering issues that could affect project cost, programme, quality, or constructability.
- Provide timely technical recommendations and escalat material risks when appropriate.
- Participate in project meetings, design reviews, construction discussions, and other technical coordination activities.
- Help ensure effective communication between engineering, development, commercial, construction, and project‑management functions.
4. Regulatory Compliance & Permitting
- Support the development team in ensuring electrical designs satisfy applicable regulatory and technical requirements.
- Review project electrical designs against relevant local, state, federal, utility, and industry standards.
- Provide technical input during site planning, permitting, zoning, and approval processes.
- Identify electrical engineering considerations that may affect permitting or project development.
- Review interconnection agreements, utility requirements, tariffs, regulatory documentation, and technical studies.
- Assess the potential implications of regulatory or utility requirements on project design, cost, schedule, and execution.
- Support the project team in maintaining compliance with applicable electrical engineering and renewable energy requirements.
- Provide technical guidance where regulatory changes or utility requirements require modifications to project design or delivery strategy.
5. Technical Communication & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as a technical point of contact for electrical engineering and interconnection matters.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, contractors, consultants, utilities, vendors, and regulatory stakeholders.
- Prepare technical reports, engineering summaries, proposals, presentations, and project documentation.
- Present technical findings and recommendations to project stakeholders in a clear and commercially relevant manner.
- Explain complex engineering, interconnection, and regulatory matters to stakeholders with varying levels of technical expertise.
- Provide regular updates on engineering progress, interconnection status, technical risks, and outstanding actions.
- Maintain accurate records of technical decisions, project milestones, studies, approvals, and key correspondence.
- Ensure relevant stakeholders remain informed of changes to technical requirements, schedules, and project risks.
Qualifications & Technical Knowledge
The successful candidate will typically possess:
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licence or eligibility would be advantageous.
- Strong working knowledge of electrical engineering principles applicable to large‑scale renewable energy projects.
- Experience with electrical design and engineering software such as AutoCAD and PVsyst.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the wider Microsoft Office suite.
- Knowledge of utility‑scale solar photovoltaic systems and battery energy storage systems.
- Understanding of transmission planning and grid interconnection processes.
- Familiarity with interconnection applications, agreements, studies, and utility requirements.
- Knowledge of power‑flow analysis, short‑circuit studies, stability analysis, and related transmission‑system modelling.
- Ability to interpret single‑line diagrams, technical specifications, engineering studies, regulatory documentation, and utility requirements.
- Understanding of permitting and regulatory processes associated with large‑scale energy infrastructure.
- Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of how technical decisions can affect project cost and schedule.
Required Experience
- At least five years of relevant electrical engineering experience.
- Experience within renewable energy, power generation, energy infrastructure, or a closely related sector.
- Experience with utility‑scale solar and/or battery energy storage projects is highly desirable.
- Demonstrable experience supporting or leading grid interconnection activities.
- Experience with transmission studies, utility requirements, or interconnection processes across U.S. electricity markets.
- Experience reviewing engineering designs and technical studies and translating findings into practical project recommendations.
- Experience working with external engineering consultants, utilities, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Previous involvement in permitting, design optimisation, electrical system analysis, or project technical due diligence.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines concurrently.
- Experience working across multidisciplinary teams and coordinating technical deliverables.
- The ability to operate independently while maintaining effective communication with project leadership and wider delivery teams.
