Job summary

County of Los Angeles is seeking qualified candidates for emergency Senior Deputy Public Guardian vacancies related to homelessness. Under an emergency order, appointments may be made for up to 90 days, with potential for permanent County employment contingent on performance.

Essential duties include developing care plans with treatment teams, arranging living and treatment needs, and handling conservatorship investigations and court petitions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in social sciences, behavioral sciences, business administration, or accounting required or equivalent
• Master's degree may substitute for one year of required experience
• Two years as Deputy Public Guardian in LA County or three years administering conservatorships, guardianships, or trusts in a public agency preferred

Responsibilities

• Develops care plans for the most complex clients in collaboration with the treatment team and monitors implementation.
• Determines living arrangements and arranges required treatments including involuntary placement authority.
• Investigates financial, medical, and social background to assess service needs and conservatorship eligibility.
• Conducts investigations to determine appropriateness of LPS or Murphy conservatorships for justice-involved individuals.
• Regularly visits clients to assess care quality and coordinate personal services.
• Establishes budgets and authorizes expenditures to meet conservatee needs.
• Locates assets, arranges appraisals, and prepares court documents to marshal and protect assets.
• Notifies family and coordinates funeral arrangements per cultural requirements.
• Prepares petitions for conservatorship and annual court reports; responds to court inquiries.
• Testifies in court regarding need for conservatorship and related matters.
• Serves as Court Deputy in Mental Health Court and Private Conservator Liaison; assists private conservators in navigating court systems.

Education

Bachelor's degree in social sciences, behavioral sciences, business administration, or accounting

Master's Degree substituted for one year of experience
