The California Department of Industrial Relations is seeking a Deputy Labor Commissioner Supervisor to plan, organize, direct and coordinate the Licensing and Registration Unit for staff in Oakland, Los Angeles and Van Nuys.
This role assigns work, trains staff, evaluates performance, and prepares reports while communicating California’s licensing and registration rules to employers, employees and community groups.
Under the general direction of the Assistant Chief, the Deputy Labor Commissioner Supervisor plans, organizes, directs and coordinates the work of the Licensing and Registration (L & R) Unit for staff located in Oakland, Los Angeles and Van Nuys. The L&R unit administers exams, issues and renews permits, licenses, certifications and registrations in the following areas: Car Washing & Polishing, Child Performer Services, Door-to-Door Sales for Minors, Farm Labor Contractors, Foreign Labor Contractors, Garment Manufacturing & Contracting, Industrial Homework, Janitorial Service Providers, Produce Unloaders, Sheltered Workshop, Entertainment Work Permits, Studio Teachers and Talent Agents/Agencies.
Assigns work, trains staff and monitors work in the unit. Works with the Legal unit to review revocations and denials of registrations and licenses; works with IT to identify updates to the website and web-based applications. Evaluates staff performance, prepares reports and correspondence and responds to questions and concerns from the public, from other units within the Labor Commissioner’s Office and from community-based organizations. Addresses interested groups and give information to employers and employees regarding the provisions of State labor laws relating to licensing and registration. Responds to community-based organizations’ questions and concerns.

This position is located in Fresno. The incumbent works 40 hours per week in a multi-story office building. Travel is required per operational needs.
