Senior Dental Assistant, Advanced Periodontics Clinic, UMKC School of Dentistry

The Periodontics Department at the UMKC School of Dentistry is seeking a Certified Dental Assistant (UM Job Title: Senior Dental Assistant) to assist department faculty, periodontal residents, as well as dental students, preparing them to effectively work with a dental assistant.
Our team values dedication to teamwork and the ability to adjust to the demands of a flexible and fluid schedule. Ideal candidates will have ability to maintain a positive attitude and enthusiasm throughout the workday and utilize strong communication skills.

Typical duties include:

  1. Greeting and seating patients as they arrive, answering clinic phone calls, returning after-hours messages, and scheduling patient appointments when the residency coordinator is not available.
  2. Preparing dental treatment areas through disinfection and sterilization.
  3. Preparing, sterilizing, disinfecting, and maintaining dental instruments, supplies and equipment.
  4. Preparing and assisting doctors in all facets of consults, nonsurgical, and surgical therapy; keeping the patient’s mouth clean and dry during procedures; assisting with patients undergoing sedation.
  5. Taking patient records (i.e., including x-rays, pictures, and impressions); assisting with charting/updating patient electronic health record.
  6. Instructing patients on proper dental hygiene; checking with doctors for treatment instructions; answering patient questions or directing to appropriate resource, as needed.
  7. Maintaining the highest standards in regard to patient safety, privacy, and OHSA protocols.
  8. Keeping day to day supplies stocked at all times.
  9. Other duties as assigned.
Shift

Shift

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.

This is an in-person position supporting the UMKC Periodontics Clinic.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired is necessary.
  • Certifications as required by state/federal law or regulatory agencies is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience assisting in an educational dental clinic.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Full-Time/Part-Time

Full-Time, 40 hours per week (1.0 FTE), fully benefit-eligible from date of hire, staff position.

Up to $21.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.
