Job summary

Longshot Space Technologies Corporation in Alameda, CA is seeking a Lead Systems Engineer to be the technical face of the company to the Department of War and lead defense capture efforts. You will shape technical solutions, author white papers, prepare reviews, and defend them in program offices; report to VP Government Programs and work with engineering and manufacturing leads.

This senior role blends deep technical ownership with customer-facing influence, with 75% time on capture/execution

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Systems, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of systems engineering experience in aerospace and defense.
• Direct DoW/DoD customer experience including capture engineering.
• Excellent technical writing and briefing skills to DoW/DoD leadership.
• Strong DoD acquisition lifecycle knowledge (MDD, MSA, TMRR, EMD, P&D).
• Experience with requirements management tools (DOORS, Jama).
• Ability to obtain security clearance and onsite work in Alameda with travel.

Responsibilities

• Lead capture engineering on defense pursuits from early discovery to proposal submission.
• Identify technical discriminators that separate Longshot from competitors.
• Shape solutions aligned to customer requirements and evaluation criteria.
• Partner with business development and program management on pursuit strategy and teaming.
• Debrief the team on customer feedback and roadmap implications.
• Conduct trade studies across cost, performance, risk, and schedule.
