Job summary

Synopsys, Inc. seeks an experienced embedded firmware engineer to design, develop, and maintain PHYINIT, the configuration software for DDR PHY IP.

You will implement runtime firmware on embedded controllers, train sequences, calibration, and modes, and work with design teams to translate RTL changes into workable configuration code. You will debug bring-up on customer silicon, build automation flows in Python/Perl, and drive software releases across design revisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering.
• 5+ years hands-on experience in ASIC design, verification, or firmware bring-up.
• Strong C programming skills for firmware/embedded software.
• Experience with Python or Perl for automation and build flows.
• Proven debugging across firmware, RTL, registers, and silicon behavior.
• Experience with high-speed interfaces such as DDR/LPDDR is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain PHYINIT, the configuration software that initializes and configures Synopsys DDR PHY IP across multiple product generations
• Write runtime firmware for embedded controllers within the PHY, managing training sequences, calibration, and operational modes
• Collaborate with digital design and verification engineers to enable new DDR features and translate RTL changes into configuration code
• Debug PHY bring-up issues on customer silicon and internal test chips by analyzing register states and waveform data
• Build and improve automation flows using Python or Perl to generate configuration code and validate settings
• Own the software/firmware release process for PHYINIT ensuring compatibility across design revisions and customer use cases
• Participate in architecture discussions for future PHY generations, representing the software/firmware perspective early in design cycle
