Job summary

Allstate is seeking a senior database engineering leader to drive the vision, strategy, and execution of the DBaaS platform. You will hands-on lead architecture, modernization of SQL Server and Oracle, and advance self-service automation, APIs, and IaC for enterprise-scale needs.

You will partner with engineering, security, and product leaders to set standards and roadmaps, mentor teams, and influence key vendors. This role requires deep enterprise experience and cloud/database expertise.

Qualifications

12+ years in database engineering, platform/infra disciplines.
5+ years leading large-scale enterprise database platforms or modernization programs.
Bachelor's degree in a technical field.
Deep expertise in SQL Server and/or Oracle.
Experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, or cloud-native databases.
Strong automation, IaC, APIs, DevOps and platform engineering practices.
Experience building self-service platforms and operational automation.
Experience in large, complex enterprise environments.
Designing highly available, secure and scalable platforms.
Ability to influence enterprise technology strategy and roadmaps.
Experience partnering with engineering, security, infra and product leaders.
Preferred: DBaaS, AWS/Azure/GCP, Kubernetes, cloud migrations, FinOps, AI/ML, analytics, vector databases, LLM infra.
Cloud/Database or Architecture certifications preferred.

Job description

Lead the vision, technical strategy, and execution of Allstate's Database as a Service (DBaaS) platform
Serve as a hands-on technical leader and senior engineering resource for database architecture, platform modernization, and technical execution
Stabilize, standardize, and modernize critical SQL Server and Oracle database platforms
Advance Infrastructure as Code, APIs, automation, and self-service capabilities
Define and build next-generation database capabilities for AI, analytics, and enterprise priorities
Partner with engineering, architecture, infrastructure, security, product, and senior technology leaders
Influence highly visible technology decisions across senior technical leadership and cross-functional stakeholders
Establish metrics and KPIs for reliability, automation adoption, developer experience, performance, resiliency, and operational excellence
Establish enterprise standards for database security, observability, resiliency, and operational excellence
Mentor engineers, architects, and technical leaders
Influence vendor roadmaps and strategic technology partnerships

Requirements

12+ years of experience in database engineering, platform engineering, cloud engineering, infrastructure engineering, or related technical disciplines
5+ years leading large-scale enterprise database platforms, platform engineering initiatives, or modernization programs
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field
Deep expertise in enterprise database platforms, including significant SQL Server and/or Oracle experience
Experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, or cloud-native database services
Strong experience with automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), APIs, DevOps, and platform engineering practices
Experience building, transforming, or modernizing self-service platforms and operational automation capabilities
Experience operating in large, complex enterprise environments
Experience designing highly available, resilient, secure, and scalable platforms supporting business-critical applications
Ability to influence enterprise technology strategy, architecture decisions, engineering roadmaps, and senior technical stakeholders
Experience partnering with engineering, architecture, security, infrastructure, and product leaders
Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams, mentor engineers, and drive organizational change
Preferred: experience with DBaaS platforms, AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes, containers, cloud migrations, FinOps, AI/ML, analytics, vector databases, or LLM infrastructure
Industry certifications in cloud, database, architecture, or related disciplines are preferred
Must submit to a background investigation
