Job summary

Brightpath Associates LLC in the Washington, D.C. metro area seeks a senior Database Administrator to manage Oracle and NoSQL databases, including AWS-hosted DocumentDB, Postgres, and MongoDB, emphasizing performance, availability, and security. Focus on migrations from on-prem to AWS and robust failover planning.

The hybrid role requires 2 onsite days, background check eligibility, and capacity to support mission-critical needs. 10+ years of experience and a BS in CS/IT are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and at least 10 years of relevant experience.
• Expertise in Oracle and NoSQL databases (MongoDB).
• Experience with AWS DocumentDB and other AWS managed databases.
• Experience with migrating on‑premises databases to AWS.
• Strong experience with failover, backups, and disaster recovery planning.
• Proficient in MongoDB Query Language (MQL) and data modeling.
• Experience with AWS CLI, SDKs, CloudWatch.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, and implement permissions, policies and procedures for ensuring the secure connectivity and integrity of databases.
• Monitor database performance and optimize interactions with NoSQL.
• Design and implement backup, failover, and recovery strategies.
• Lead migrations from on-premises databases to AWS and from relational to NoSQL.
• Ensure database security measures and data privacy compliance.
• Manage AWS Redshift and data warehousing for analytics.
• Utilize CloudWatch and other tools to monitor health and automate scaling.
• Troubleshoot complex database issues and resolve performance problems.
