The engineer will participate in on-call rotations, incident reviews, and capacity planning, collaborating with engineering and infrastructure teams to enable platform modernization and high availability.

Qualificações

• 8+ years designing, administering, and troubleshooting PostgreSQL in production.
• 5+ years supporting production database systems across layers.
• Experience with cloud services including AWS and managed DBs.
• Linux systems engineering experience and automation tooling.

• Perform DB admin tasks including upgrades, backups, and capacity planning.

• Develop automation tooling using Python/Bash.
• Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, and post-incident reviews.
• Monitor health and performance, implementing proactive improvements.

Piper Companies is seeking a Senior Database Reliability Engineer to support the reliability, scalability, and performance of mission-critical database and data platforms within a large-scale cloud environment. The Database Reliability Engineer will be responsible for administering and optimizing PostgreSQL infrastructure, automating operational processes, supporting distributed data systems, and ensuring the availability and security of production databases. This opportunity will be a long-term open-ended contract opportunity fully remote.

Responsibilities for the Senior Database Reliability Engineer include:

• Plan, administer, maintain, and secure PostgreSQL infrastructure to ensure high availability, reliability, and performance.
• Design, develop, and maintain ETL pipelines and data migration procedures for PostgreSQL environments.
• Perform database administration activities including installation, upgrades, patching, backup and recovery, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
• Support cloud-based database platforms including PostgreSQL on Kubernetes, Amazon RDS, and AWS-managed services.
• Develop automation solutions and operational tooling using scripting languages such as Python and Bash.
• Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident reviews.
• Monitor database health, system performance, and operational metrics while implementing proactive improvements.
• Collaborate with engineering and infrastructure teams to support architectural changes, scalability initiatives, and platform modernization efforts.

Qualifications for the Senior Database Reliability Engineer include:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
• 8+ years of experience designing, administering, and troubleshooting PostgreSQL in production environments.
• 5+ years of experience supporting production database systems or distributed data platforms across application, database, operating system, storage, and networking layers.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and managed database services including AWS, Amazon RDS, Kubernetes, Terraform, service discovery, and secrets management.
• 3+ years of Linux systems engineering experience, including performance tuning, security, memory management, storage optimization, and networking.
• Experience automating infrastructure and database operations with tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
• 2+ years of experience developing automation and operational tooling using Python, Bash, Go, Ruby, Perl, or similar scripting languages.
• Experience supporting distributed data technologies such as Kafka/MSK, ClickHouse, Redis, MySQL, Cassandra, Elasticsearch, or related platforms.
• Strong understanding of PostgreSQL internals including replication, indexing, query optimization, transaction management, backup and recovery, and performance tuning.
• Experience with database reliability practices including disaster recovery, backup validation, failover testing, monitoring, alerting, and service level objectives (SLOs).

Compensation for the Senior Database Reliability Engineer includes:

• Salary includes: $165,000 - $180,000
