Job summary

Sapizon Technologies LLP is seeking an experienced Database Administrator to join our cloud-focused team. You will administer PostgreSQL and SQL Server estates in production, design HA/DR on AWS, and optimize queries and workloads across EC2, RDS, Aurora, and AWS DMS migrations.

The role requires strong MS/ PostgreSQL expertise, hands-on AWS experience, and a solid track record in 24x7 production support with ITIL familiarity. Remote options may apply.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 8+ years of hands-on experience administering PostgreSQL and SQL Server databases in production, covering both EC2-hosted and RDS-managed deployments.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience running database workloads on AWS.
• AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Database - Specialty, Solutions Architect) and Microsoft/PostgreSQL certifications are a plus.
• Experience with 24x7 production support, on-call rotations, and change/incident management processes (ITIL familiarity a plus).

Responsibilities

• Administer, monitor, and tune production PostgreSQL and SQL Server estates - installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, backup/recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery.
• Design and implement HA/DR solutions: PostgreSQL streaming replication and failover, SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, log shipping, and Multi-AZ / read-replica topologies on AWS RDS and Aurora.
• Perform advanced query tuning and performance troubleshooting using execution plans, wait statistics, indexing strategies, and workload analysis in both PostgreSQL and SQL Server.
• Provision, operate, and optimize AWS database infrastructure - RDS, EC2-hosted databases, S3 (backups/exports), EBS storage tiers, VPC networking, security groups, and IAM-based access controls.
• Plan and execute database migrations (homogeneous and heterogeneous) using AWS DMS and native tooling, including schema conversion, data validation, and cutover planning.
• Automate routine DBA operations (provisioning, patching, backups, health checks, capacity reporting) using scripting and infrastructure-as-code.
• Implement and maintain database monitoring and alerting; drive proactive capacity planning, incident response, and root-cause analysis for production issues.
• Enforce database security best practices - encryption at rest/in transit, least-privilege access, auditing, and compliance requirements.
• Contribute to FinOps efforts: right-sizing instances, storage optimization, and reserved capacity planning to control AWS database spend.
• Collaborate with application, DevOps, and infrastructure teams on schema design, release management, and CI/CD integration for database changes.
• Mentor junior engineers and produce high-quality runbooks, SOPs, and operational documentation.
