Job summary

SquareTrade is seeking a Mid-Level DBA to manage a cloud-native PostgreSQL environment in AWS, with on-call duties and cross-team collaboration. You will optimize complex SQL, support SQL Server as needed, and help maintain high security and availability across production, QA, and development databases.

Ideal candidates have 4–6 years of PostgreSQL experience, strong backup/DR skills, and proficiency with SQL development and automation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, IT, or related field or equivalent experience.
• 4–6 years of PostgreSQL production experience.
• Dual engine familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server.
• 4+ years managing AWS managed DB services (Aurora, RDS).
• Proficient with PostgreSQL backup tools (pg_dump/pg_restore, AWS Snapshots).
• Advanced SQL development: joins, indexing, CTEs, window functions.

Responsibilities

• Cloud Database Management: manage PostgreSQL on AWS with high availability and security.
• Security & Access Control: IAM and DB access audits.
• Backup & Disaster Recovery: automated backups and DR testing.
• Maintenance & High Availability: updates and patches with minimal downtime.
• Replication & Scaling: configure Aurora replicas and logical replication.
• Developer Support & Optimization: assist with schema design and query optimization.
• Code Review: review SQL for efficiency and security.
• Performance Tuning: diagnose and resolve bottlenecks.
• Cross-Platform Support: maintain MS SQL Server as needed.
• On-Call Support: 24x7 on-call rotation.
