Section 1: Position Summary

The Senior Database Engineer provides top-tier support for maintaining and optimizing the company's multiple backend database systems. The role includes low-level supervision, assisting associates and database engineers with daily tasks and projects.

Section 2: Job Functions, Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs complex database administration and design work.
  • Identifies and facilitates resolution of data issues across multiple computing environments.
  • Participates in developing corporate database architecture and data standards.
  • Provides system analysis for production systems.
  • Participates in setting future IT directions as part of project teams.
  • Collaborates with development and helpdesk staff to guide code development.
  • Reviews code prior to QA implementation.
  • Implements database code across multiple servers.
  • Provides system analysis for all system environments.
  • Participates in planning and executing bi-yearly disaster recovery drills.
  • Documents DBA-related tasks and procedures in detail.
  • Contributes to various database projects.
  • Ensures the protection and security of all client data to prevent unauthorized access or transmission that could harm clients.

Section 3: Experience, Skills, and Knowledge Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Math, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • At least 6 years of experience in SQL Server database administration.
  • Basic understanding of business functions.
  • Knowledge of database design and administration techniques.
  • Experience with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve database issues.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Understanding of the Development Life Cycle.
  • Strong grasp of data modeling, relational concepts, and data warehousing.
  • Experience supporting SQL Server Data Warehouse environments.
  • Good analytical and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with vendors, management, and staff.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
  • Self-motivated and able to adhere to standards.
  • Ability to work under pressure with multiple priorities.
  • Willingness to work weekends or off-hours when necessary.
