Job summary

The HT Group seeks a Senior Database and Application Administrator in Austin, TX for a 6-month contract-to-hire. The role is hybrid—onsite 3 days per week with 2 days remote if desired—and involves managing a large SQL server estate and related applications.

You will work across SQL Server versions 2016–2022, SSIS/SSRS/SSAS, and Azure cloud integrations, with emphasis on performance, security, and change control in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Administer SQL databases and related services across multiple servers.
• Handle server/software installation and ongoing maintenance.
• Monitor performance and troubleshoot complex production issues.
• Participate in SOX/SOC II compliant change management and deployments.
• Occasionally perform after-hours deployments as needed.

Senior Database and Application Administrator (BH-20526)

Location Austin, United States Sector IT Salary 60.00 US to 65.00 US per hour

**This is a 6-month contract to hire opportunity-- this is a hybrid work model and onsite 3 days per week.

Requirements (Must haves)

• Willingness to work in a hybrid office environment: Three days in office (Austin), two days remote if desired. Normal collaboration days are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Expected work start times are between 6:00 and 8:00 AM each workday.
• This role requires multiple skillsets for effective systems management. SQL database administration is about 25% of the total job requirements. Server and software installation and administration are part of the daily activities.
• Microsoft SQL Server – 2016 up to SQL 2022, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS - 5+ years.
• Microsoft Windows Operating Systems 2016 and up – Client and Server – 5+ years.
• Microsoft Office software – 5+ years.
• Microsoft SQL Management Studio
• Microsoft T-SQL – 5+ years.
• Microsoft SQL Profiler and Extended Events, other monitoring/performance tools.
• Microsoft PowerShell – prefer at least 1-2+ years.
• VMWare or virtual server infrastructure - 2+ years.
• Server OS operations and patching.
• Microsoft Active Directory.
• Comfort with working in the MS Azure cloud.
• Azure DevOps.
• Ability to work in a complex production environment with multiple integrated systems.
• Cognizant of Security and Compliance in a SOX/SOCII Production environment.
• Occasional after-hours deployments.
• Local to the Austin area (or willing to relocate).
• Ability to thrive in a heavily regulated environment with strong change management.

• Good troubleshooting skills in a complex environment with 1000+ servers and 300+ SQL instances.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to handle multi-tasking workloads and sources of work.
• Willingness to learn new systems and processes.

• Ticketing Systems – Service Now, etc.
• Microsoft Visual Studio Code development/familiarity.
• Systems monitoring software – Dynatrace, Prometheus/Grafana, Idera, Quest Spotlight, etc.
• IIS administration
• Some LAN/WAN networking knowledge and experience
• Microsoft Active Directory knowledge and experience
• Windows clustering/Always On configurations and maintenance – 2+ years preferred.
• Familiarity with a **financial environment, loan accounting, loan origination, etc.**
• Linux OS.
• Docker/Kubernetes Swarms/Containers.
