Job summary

Rockwell Automation is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to help manage SQL Server and other data platforms. You will ensure scalable, secure databases and participate in on‑call rotations across private and cloud environments.

The role requires a strong background in T‑SQL, performance tuning, backups, and cross‑platform tooling, with a focus on reliability and automation in a global team setting.

Qualifications

Position Overview

To support our ongoing growth, we are looking for a Senior Database Administrator with experience in SQL Server Administration and other data platform technologies (Preferred). The Plex Cloud Operations team takes great pride in being part of a continuous improvement culture. As a data services team member, you will contribute to the operationalization of state‑of‑the‑art software and the adoption of open‑source technologies. You will run scalable, reliable, and secure applications while helping improve the delivery of our products. You will report to the Manager, Data Services – Plex.

Responsibilities

• Implement and maintain database servers and SQL Server KPI monitoring/alerting
• Chart database use over time to identify scaling opportunities
• Identify database bottlenecks and take corrective action
• Suggest modifications/optimizations to developers for tuning T‑SQL statements and stored procedures
• In‑depth query execution plan expertise
• Use SQL Server query store for performance‑related analysis
• Perform post‑incident customer impact analysis and monthly application availability metrics
• Perform annual database‑related audit evidence gathering and response
• Install, configure, and support SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB
• Participate in on‑call rotations
• Troubleshoot database issues in private datacenters, Azure, and AWS
• Manage access controls
• Maintain backups and integrity checks
• Participate in off‑hour maintenance windows
• Perform routine preventative maintenance
• Participate in many projects involving data services
• Work within a global team environment to accomplish multiple tasks

Essential Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of relevant work experience
• Legal authorization to work in the US (no visa sponsorship)

Preferred Qualifications

• Typically requires 5+ years of experience in database administration or operations
• Experience managing a production system that is highly available and reliable 24/7/365
• Experience managing Microsoft SQL Server in public cloud environments
• Experience writing complex T‑SQL and SQL Server stored procedures
• Experience building automated solutions that promote resiliency and self‑healing
• Operational experience with diverse technologies and large volumes of data
• Experience troubleshooting performance, tuning queries and stored procedures
• Strong SQL skills for writing and reviewing scripts
• Experience setting up backup schedules and securing data
• Experience building automation scripts for database server deployments using Terraform or Ansible
• Experience with operating systems (Windows Server, Linux) and virtualization environments
• Additional experience with PowerShell, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, MySQL, Kafka, Druid, Terraform, Ansible, Azure, AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, Chef, Puppet, OpsGenie, Prometheus, Alert Manager, PRTG, Dynatrace, HashiCorp Consul, SQL Sentry, or similar monitoring tools
