Apex Fintech Solutions in Austin, TX is seeking a Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to manage Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL environments across development, UAT, and production. The DBA will ensure availability, security, performance, backups, recovery readiness, replication reliability, and automation, with strong T-SQL and PowerShell skills and cloud familiarity (GCP preferred).

Responsibilities

• Administer and optimize high‑volume SQL Server and PostgreSQL systems in HA environments.
• Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and maintain SQL Server instances and databases.
• Manage database security, including user access and permissions.
• Perform backups, restores, and recovery testing; conduct snapshot activities.
• Monitor and optimize performance, storage, files, and logs.
• Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts for routine DBA tasks.
• Automate health checks, maintenance, and job monitoring; manage SQL Agent jobs.
• Respond to alerts related to space, growth, and performance incidents.
• Troubleshoot connectivity, replication, and performance issues.
• Support Fivetran HVR replication for on‑prem to cloud data movement.
• Assist with change requests, UAT testing, and production releases.
• Collaborate with development, infrastructure, security, and data teams.

ABOUT THIS ROLE

We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to manage, maintain, and support Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL environments across Development, UAT, and Production. The DBA will be responsible for ensuring database availability, security, performance, backup and recovery readiness, replication reliability, and operational automation. The ideal candidate will have strong hands‑on experience in SQL Server and PostgreSQL administration, T‑SQL development, PowerShell scripting, troubleshooting, and production support. Experience working with cloud platforms—preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP)—is highly desirable. Familiarity with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices is also preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and optimize high volume Microsoft SQL Server instances and PostgreSQL systems (including Cloud SQL) in highly available environments.
• Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and maintain SQL Server instances and databases.
• Manage database security, including user access, roles, permissions, and Active Directory integration.
• Perform database backups, restores, recovery testing, and snapshot activities.
• Monitor and optimize database performance, availability, storage, data files, and transaction logs.
• Execute SQL scripts for application deployments, schema changes, data population, and remediation.
• Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate routine DBA tasks, including health checks, backups, maintenance, job monitoring, disk-space validation, and reporting.
• Schedule, monitor, and troubleshoot automated database administration jobs and SQL Agent jobs.
• Respond to monitoring alerts related to disk space, transaction log growth, failed jobs, database availability, and performance issues.
• Investigate and resolve database connectivity, permissions, replication, and performance incidents.
• Support and maintain Fivetran HVR replication channels for on-premises-to-cloud data movement.
• Troubleshoot replication failures and ensure data consistency across source and target systems.
• Support database change requests, technical requirement deployments, UAT testing, and production releases.
• Collaborate with development, infrastructure, security, application support, and data teams.
• Participate in scheduled maintenance windows and occasional after‑hours production support.
• Create and maintain DBA documentation, operational procedures, and runbooks.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands‑on Microsoft SQL Server DBA and Postgres experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent work experience required.
• Experience supporting SQL Server 2016, 2019, and/or 2022.
• Strong T‑SQL scripting, query optimization, and performance‑tuning skills.
• Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for SQL Server administration and operational automation.
• Experience with SQL Server backup, restore, recovery, and disaster‑recovery processes.
• Strong knowledge of database security, user access management, roles, and permissions.
• Experience with SQL Server monitoring tools such as Idera SQL Diagnostic Manager (SQL DM) or similar platforms.
• Experience managing database storage, transaction logs, file growth, and capacity planning.
• Knowledge of database replication and data‑integration technologies.
• Experience supporting production incidents, root‑cause analysis, and change‑management processes.
• Experience with any cloud solution (GCP preferred).
• Experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, and Git/version‑control practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Fivetran HVR data replication.
• Experience supporting data migration and on‑premises-to‑cloud integration projects.
• Experience in regulated, financial services, or other highly controlled environments.
• Knowledge of formal change‑management processes, including DCRs and technical deployment requirements.
