Job summary

Verizon Connect seeks an experienced Database Administrator in the Atlanta, GA region to join our Global Database Services team. The role requires ownership mindset, service culture, and strong SQL Server expertise in a high‑volume OLTP environment.

The position is hybrid with on‑site work in Alpharetta, GA part of the week. You will manage incidents, perform changes on production systems, and collaborate with engineering to optimize database performance and automation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
• Four or more years of relevant Database administration experience in a large data environment.
• Deep understanding of SQL Server architecture and components (re-indexing, statistics, partition maintenance, backups, security, monitoring).

Responsibilities

• Own, track and resolve database incidents and requests.
• Fulfilling requests and resolving incidents within SLAs.
• Review daily backups, maintenance and monitoring to identify issues.
• Respond to alerts and escalate with DBA engineering for recurring problems.
• Enhance automation for database provisioning and monitoring.
• Maintain proactive alerting across the database platforms.

What you'll be doing...

Verizon Connect has an immediate need for an experienced Database Administrator based in the Atlanta Georgia region to join our Global Database Services team. The ideal associate will be a highly competent, results driven as well as a highly self-motivated individual.

This DBA role requires a service oriented mentality, high sense of ownership of the problems and requests assigned, focus on managing and resolving issues in a prompt & efficient manor, establishing and maintaining communication with technology customers to keep them updated with status of their requests, initiating and performing changes on production systems and proactively escalating any issues that cannot be resolved within the established timeframes.

Responsibilities:

• Owning, tracking and resolving database related incidents and requests.
• Fulfilling requests and resolving incidents within SLAs.
• Reviewing service-related reports (e.g. database backups, maintenance, monitoring) on a daily basis to ensure operational issues are identified and resolved promptly.
• Responding to database related alerts and escalations and working with database engineering to come up with strategic solutions to recurring problems.
• Enhancing automation for database platform provision process
• Enhancing database monitoring & alerting platforms to ensure proactive alerting is always achieved.

Please note that this is a hybrid role requiring on-site presence in Alpharetta, GA for part of the week. Candidates who are unable to commute to this location will not be considered

What we're looking for...

You'll need to have:

• Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
• Four or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.
• Four or more years of relevant Database administration experience in a large data environment
• Deep understanding of SQL Server database architecture and internal components with particular focus on :-
  • Re-indexing (high transaction throughput OLTP platform)
  • Statistics
  • Partition maintenance (high transaction throughput OLTP platform)
  • H/A implementations
  • Backups, restores & Point-in-time recovery
  • Security
  • Monitoring & alerting
• Advanced knowledge of Database Administration on the SQL Server (2019 & 2022)
• Advanced knowledge of Troubleshooting and resolving database problems in a high transaction OLTP environment.
• Advanced knowledge of Database Performance Tuning & Optimization and Query cost management
• Advance knowledge of writing, debugging and tuning of T-SQL code
• Experience in Managing SQL Server in an AWS RDS environment.
• Significant operational and support experience with large data platforms
• Experience with scripting/automation (Powershell / Python / sparc preferred).

Even better if you have:

• Experience with other management & support activities with other relational database platforms (PostgreSQL, MySQL) in an AWS environment.
• Experience with ownership & management of ElasticSearch in AWS
• Experience with ownership & management of Redshift in AWS
• Experience in working as part of a geographically dispersed team
• Ability to learn new technologies and scripting languages

• Ability to work in a fast paced, high volume, agile environment.
• Ability to approach problems with a sense of ownership, enthusiasm and innovation

Where you'll be working

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes working from home and a minimum of three days per week in the office, which will be set by your manager. Employees are responsible for maintaining compliance with hybrid work policies.
