  • 13 years of work experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, performing statistical analysis, and coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL), or 10 years work experience with a Master's degree.
  • 5 years of experience as a people manager within a technical leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, Physics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
  • 15 years of work experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, performing statistical analysis, and coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL).
  • 6 years of experience as a people manager within a technical leadership role.

Job Description:

Help serve Google's worldwide user base of more than a billion people. Data Scientists provide quantitative support, market understanding, and a strategic perspective to our partners throughout the organization. As a data-loving team member, you serve as an analytics expert, using numbers to help make better decisions, weaving stories with meaningful insights from data, and making critical recommendations for Engineering and Product Management teams. You will be involved in tallying data and communicating findings effectively.

The Play Store and Ads team aims to become trusted experts across our content catalog, providing value to users and developers throughout the content lifecycle, from development to engagement.

As the leader of this team, you will oversee a large group of Data Scientists, providing insights that help Product and Go-To-Market teams make informed decisions to delight users, grow the business, and deliver ROI for partners. You will act as a thought partner to cross-functional leadership.

The US base salary range for this full-time role is $227,000-$320,000 plus bonus, equity, and benefits. Salary details depend on role, level, location, skills, experience, and education. The recruiter will provide specific salary info during hiring. Note that listed salaries reflect base pay only; bonuses, equity, and benefits are additional.

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform analysis using tools like SQL, R, Python, leading projects from problem definition to stakeholder presentation.
  • Own projects end-to-end, including problem framing, data handling, modeling, visualization, and implementation.
  • Manage project timelines, drive improvements, and define operational goals.
  • Identify key focus areas aligned with business goals, develop projects, and secure stakeholder buy-in.
  • Mentor and manage junior data scientists, fostering a culture of excellence and learning.
