Job summary

Uber’s Science team seeks a data scientist to turn unstructured data into actionable plans. You will bridge technical depth and business impact, tackling high-priority problems from idea to production in a fast-moving environment.

The role focuses on building ML models, designing experiments, and delivering metrics that guide product decisions across Uber Direct and related services. In-office collaboration is valued, with flexible remote options where approved.

Qualifications

• Ph.D./M.S./B.S. in Statistics, ML, OR, Economics, Math, CS, or related field.
• 5+ years as Applied/Data Scientist or 3+ years with Ph.D.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language (R, Python, Java, Ruby, Scala/Spark or Perl).
• Experience designing experiments and interpreting KPI results.

Responsibilities

• Develop data-driven insights by collaborating across product, engineering, and operations to identify growth opportunities.
• Build and scale statistical, optimization, and ML models for strategic and real-time improvements.
• Design and analyze experiments using A/B testing and causal inference to drive decisions.
• Unblock technical barriers by creating logging, metrics, and diagnostic tools for data-driven development.
• Define success metrics with cross-functional partners to align on long-term impact.
• Lead through influence by communicating complex findings to leadership and technical teams.
