Job summary

General Mills, Inc. is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to design, prototype and build advanced analytics engines. You will apply ML, data mining and information retrieval to support business decisions by collaborating with product owners, partners and other Data Scientists.

You will develop analytical models, assess novel technologies, and iterate quickly around generative AI while ensuring measurable business outcomes. This role emphasizes data-driven storytelling and high-impact deliverables.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in data science, Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Statistics or other related fields.
• 6+ years of relevant experience with at least 2 years of relevant experience in Data Science.
• Strong foundation of statistical reasoning, critical thinking, and ability to translate stakeholder problems into analytical solutions.
• Experience with Python, including package development and core programming principles.
• Some experience with generative AI concepts, embeddings, LLMs, agents, and RAG.
• Experience writing complex SQL queries and understanding data warehousing.
• Experience with machine learning and data visualization tools.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement AI solutions for semi-structured data, covering framing, data curation, and evaluation across classification, entity extraction, and summarization.
• Develop high-quality Agentic AI and RAG workflows to maximize retrieval performance.
• Technically evaluate novel technology to inform effort vs. improvement tradeoffs.
• Learn and iterate with novel technologies, especially around generative AI.
• Monitor and improve model performance with feedback from business partners.
• Implement generative AI techniques including prompt/LMM fine-tuning, RAG, and tool designs.
• Help stakeholders translate objectives into measurable outcomes.
• Frame business needs into statistical problems and deliver timely value.
• Explain the rationale of recommendations to build trust.
• Advocate for data-driven decision-making and best analytic practices.
• Develop long-term data science processes, frameworks, tools, and standards.
• Collaborate with Data Scientists and teammates.
