Job summary

Abbott Laboratories seeks a Senior Data Scientist (Computational Biophysicist) to advance analytics in the Core Labs Dx Division. This on-site role in Abbott Park involves leading data-driven studies across diagnostics, devices, and informatics to improve patient outcomes.

You will develop ML models, validate analyses, and mentor teammates while partnering with business partners to translate insights into strategic actions.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree with additional progressive research experience sufficient to demonstrate equivalency.
  • Doctorate Degree; experience presenting results to internal and external audiences; present complex data to diverse groups.
  • Ability to train others on the theoretical and practical basis of techniques and assays.
  • Familiar with project planning, process updates, and experimental design.
  • Life or Physical Science background with up to two years of research or industrial experience.
  • Advanced degree in Life or Physical Science, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering or closely related discipline is preferred.
  • Advanced experience with programming scripts and pipelines in Python, Bash, C++ in Linux/Unix.
  • Experience applying data analysis techniques to large data sets using Hadoop, Spark, MongoDB, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS.
  • Experience building or applying machine learning models for protein sequence and structure.
  • Experience in computational biology, biophysics, molecular dynamics, and biostatistics.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze complex data sets and translate findings into clear, actionable recommendations for business and technical teams.
  • Collect, prepare, clean, and transform structured and unstructured data for advanced analysis.
  • Design end-to-end analytical strategies addressing critical business questions and support data-driven decision making.
  • Develop, validate, and deploy machine learning models, predictive algorithms, and advanced analytical solutions.
  • Perform statistical analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities within large data sets.
  • Partner with stakeholders to define project goals, requirements, timelines, and success metrics.
  • Communicate analytical approaches and model assumptions to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Mentor junior data scientists and contribute to data science best practices and processes.
  • Lead and contribute to teams delivering analytics solutions from development through deployment.
