Job summary

UL Solutions in Northbrook, IL seeks a Senior Data Scientist who bridges business needs with data-driven solutions. This role emphasizes stakeholder influence, executive communication, and measurable outcomes alongside strong data science skills.

You will lead discovery, translate requirements into analytics plans, and collaborate with data engineering and product teams in an Agile environment, delivering end-to-end analytics using SQL, Python/R, and visualization tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in data science, statistics, mathematics, CS or related quantitative field
• 7 to 10+ years of experience in data science or analytics
• Experience partnering with business leaders and senior stakeholders
• Lead discovery, gather requirements, translate needs into analytics solutions
• Strong business acumen and ability to connect analysis to outcomes
• Advanced proficiency in SQL and Python or R
• Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar visualization tools
• Excellent written, verbal, presentation and stakeholder management skills
• Experience delivering work in Agile environments and Azure DevOps

Responsibilities

• Build trusted relationships with business leaders to understand priorities and decision needs
• Lead discovery sessions to frame challenges, define hypotheses, and determine value
• Translate business needs into clear problem statements, success measures, and analytical plans
• Challenge requests that don't address the underlying problem and propose better approaches
• Align stakeholders on scope, priorities, risks, and expected outcomes
• Own end-to-end analytics initiatives from discovery to adoption and measurement
• Analyze large datasets to identify patterns and actionable insights
• Design, develop, and evaluate ML solutions with appropriate methods
• Define evaluation criteria including performance, interpretability, and risk
• Mentor teammates in problem framing, stakeholder engagement, and analysis practices
• Establish best practices for reproducibility, validation, governance, and quality
