OpenAI is seeking a senior data scientist to define what effective cybersecurity looks like in the age of AI agents. You will measure risks, improve internal security controls, and shape AI-powered security products across OpenAI’s Security organization and cybersecurity product teams.

This high-ownership role requires turning ambiguous security challenges into measurable improvements, building a new analytics discipline, and partnering with security, product, engineering, and research teams to

Qualifications

• 5+ years of data science, analytics, or related quantitative field.
• Experience in cybersecurity, trust and safety, or privacy.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and Python.
• Ability to define meaningful metrics when ground truth is limited.

Responsibilities

• Define how we measure AI-agent security and establish metrics and evaluation frameworks.
• Improve security controls while minimizing friction and operational costs.
• Build data foundations for security decisions and surface gaps in data quality.
• Strengthen detection and response for anomalous behavior and risky access.
• Shape AI-powered cybersecurity products and assess their impact on workflows and value.
• Develop evaluation systems for security findings and connect model behavior to outcomes.
• Understand the complete security workflow from discovery to remediation.
