Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a senior data scientist to define effective cybersecurity in the age of AI agents. You will measure risks, improve internal security controls, and shape AI-powered security products across Security and product teams.

This role reports to Data Science while partnering with Security, Cyber Product, Engineering, and Research. You will establish new analytical disciplines, turn ambiguous challenges into measurable improvements, and help scale a security data science capability

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in data science, applied research, analytics, or a related quantitative field.
• Experience in cybersecurity, trust and safety, fraud or abuse prevention, privacy, platform integrity, or similar domains.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and Python, with ability to investigate complex datasets and build reproducible analytical workflows.

Responsibilities

• Define how we measure AI-agent security and establish evaluation frameworks for coverage and behavior.
• Improve security controls by quantifying effectiveness, false positives, and operational costs.
• Build data foundations by improving instrumentation and surface data-quality gaps.
• Strengthen detection and response by identifying meaningful signals and evaluating interventions.
• Shape AI-powered cybersecurity products by assessing how AI systems identify security issues and deliver customer value.
• Develop evaluation systems for security findings, including accuracy, severity, and actionability.
• Understand the complete security workflow to improve activation, adoption, and enterprise value.
• Design rigorous measurement and experimentation strategies for high-stakes environments.
• Translate analysis into security and product strategy for leadership.
• Help establish a security data science capability with roadmaps and durable operating rhythms.
