Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a senior data scientist to shape cybersecurity in the era of AI agents. You will measure risk, improve internal controls, and help define new analytics disciplines across Security and Data Science.

This role demands turning ambiguous security challenges into measurable improvements and working across product, engineering, and research teams. You will report into Data Science while partnering with Security, Cyber Product, Engineering, and Research.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or related quantitative field with handling ambiguous, high-impact problems.
• Experience in cybersecurity, trust and safety, fraud or abuse prevention, privacy, or similar domains.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and Python with reproducible analytical workflows.
• Experience defining meaningful metrics and evaluation frameworks when ground truth is limited.
• Strong judgment in experimentation, causal inference, and observational analysis.
• Ability to partner with security engineers, product managers, software engineers, researchers, and leaders.
• Demonstrated ability to translate technical analysis into concrete product or system improvements.

Responsibilities

• Define how we measure AI-agent security, establishing metrics and evaluation frameworks.
• Improve security controls without introducing unnecessary friction, evaluating costs and benefits.
• Build the data foundations for security decisions through instrumentation and data quality.
• Strengthen detection and response by identifying meaningful signals and improving outcomes.
• Shape AI-powered cybersecurity products by assessing how AI systems identify issues and deliver value.
• Develop evaluation systems for security findings, aligning findings with outcomes.
• Understand the complete security workflow to improve activation, adoption, and enterprise value.
• Design rigorous measurement and experimentation strategies for new models and controls.
• Translate analysis into strategy and roadmaps for security data science growth.
• Help establish a new security data science capability with durable operating rhythms.
