Job summary

Umbra seeks a Senior/Staff Data Platform Engineer to lead data infrastructure for autonomous satellite operations and analytics. You will design scalable pipelines, models, and services, enabling real-time insights and decision support across multiple business units.

You will collaborate with product and engineering teams to deliver reliable data platforms, drive data governance, and improve observability while leveraging Databricks, dbt, and cloud-based tools.

Qualifications

• BS in CS/Data Science or equivalent experience.
• 15+ years of professional experience as a Data Engineer or similar role.
• Strong SQL and data warehousing, lakehouse concepts.
• Python for data pipelines; CI/CD practices.
• Experience with Databricks, Hadoop ecosystem, and lakehouse platforms.
• Experience with dbt or similar data modeling tools.
• Cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) for data storage/processing.
• Familiarity with monitoring/observability tools.
• Effective communication and teamwork.
• Experience in aerospace domain and SAR data workflows.
• Security clearance or ability to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and infrastructure.
• Develop and optimize data models, warehouses, and lakehouse patterns for analytics and ML.
• Build analytics and data platform capabilities using Databricks, dbt, and cloud services.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data quality and usability.
• Implement data governance, security, and cost management practices.
