Job summary

Umbra, a leading American space technology company, seeks a Senior/Staff Data Platform Engineer to lead data infrastructure for autonomous satellite operations, analytics, and decision-making. You will design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and lakehouse patterns, collaborating with product owners and engineering teams.

You will work on Databricks, dbt, and cloud services, ensuring data quality, governance, and observability across the enterprise.

Qualifications

• BS in CS/Data Science or equivalent experience.
• 15+ years of professional data engineering experience.
• Strong SQL + data warehousing, lakehouse concepts.
• Python + SQL for pipelines with CI/CD practices.
• Experience with analytics/visualization tools (Omni Analytics, Tableau, Power BI).
• Experience with Databricks, Hadoop ecosystem, or similar.
• Experience with dbt or similar data modeling frameworks.
• Cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Familiarity with monitoring/observability tools (Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus, New Relic, Splunk).
• Excellent communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and infrastructure for large volumes of satellite, operations, and business data.
• Develop and optimize data models, warehousing, lakehouse patterns, and dbt transformations for analytics and ML.
• Build and operate analytics and data platform capabilities using Databricks, dbt, Omni Analytics, and cloud services.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data quality, reliability, and usability.
• Implement data governance, security, cost management, and observability practices.
