Job summary

Workday, Inc. in Pleasanton is seeking a hands-on Senior Software Engineer to build and operate a scalable data-product platform that enables engineering and analytics teams to create and govern production data products and marts.

You will work with dbt Core, Airflow, Trino, Apache Iceberg, S3 Tables, Glue Catalog, and CI/CD to ensure reliability and security. The role combines deep data-platform engineering with data-product development, including writing production SQL, modeling data, and

Qualifications

Experience building/distributing data platforms or lakehouse architectures.
Strong production SQL and data-modeling skills.
Hands-on with production dbt projects and data pipelines.

Responsibilities

Build and evolve platform capabilities across dbt, Airflow, Trino, and Iceberg/S3 Tables.
Create and maintain production dbt projects with data models, tests, and semantic definitions.
Design and operate Airflow workflows with scheduling, dependencies, and retries.
Develop high-volume analytical workloads and optimize query performance.
Implement data quality, access control, and security using governed catalogs and IAM patterns.
Automate deployment with Terraform and CI/CD.
Contribute to semantic/visualization layer for end-user data products.
Troubleshoot and maintain reliability, scalability, and production operations.
