Job summary

Murmuration seeks a Staff Data Platform Engineer to build and operate scalable data stores and pipelines across our engineering teams. You will define guidelines for access, storage, and security, and develop reusable infrastructure as code to reduce friction for all engineers.

As a senior IC, you will shape the data platform, review data stores, expand our tooling, and mentor other engineers while upholding strong data privacy and reliability practices across cloud environments.

Qualifications

• Experience building and operating cloud data stores
• Strong background in database design and data modeling
• Proficiency with infrastructure as code and automation
• Demonstrated focus on data security, privacy, and access controls
• Experience with monitoring, observability, and incident response
• Ability to mentor senior engineers and lead technical discussions
• Excellent documentation and communication skills
• Understanding of NoSQL vs relational data architectures
• Commitment to writing secure, reliable code and systems

Responsibilities

• Create reusable infrastructure as code to manage database resources
• Secure databases and manage user access via automation
• Ensure end‑to‑end data flow monitoring is integrated with applications
• Optimize database runtimes and performance
• Design, implement, and test backup and disaster recovery plans
• Review data stores and advise on best-fit architectures for apps
• Mentor senior engineers and lead technical design discussions
• Champion secure data practices and privacy across the product
