Job summary

Becton, Dickinson and Company is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to lead the design and evolution of the data platform powering BD Connected Care's AI initiatives. You will architect scalable data pipelines and governance solutions for trusted data used by ML engineers and stakeholders across the organization.

This hands-on leadership role requires strong SQL, Python, and cloud data warehouse experience, plus the ability to communicate complex designs to technical and non-technical audiences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years of data engineering experience with end-to-end ownership of production pipelines and data models.
• Demonstrated architectural ownership beyond a single team and setting standards.
• Expert SQL: query authoring, optimization, partitioning, distribution keys, window functions.
• Production experience with AWS data services (S3, Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, Athena).

Responsibilities

• Own the data architecture for the team's AI workflows, including warehouse, lake, and serving layers.
• Ingestion from BD product, operational, and clinical-adjacent sources into analytics and ML data layers.
• Design relational and analytical schemas in the cloud warehouse and lake.
• Build reconciled histories aligning events across systems with different cadences.
• Own data quality, data contracts, validation across data feeds, and anomaly detection.
• Own operational health: SLAs, monitoring, on-call, incident response.
• Implement privacy, PHI handling, and lineage for regulated data.
