Job summary

BD is a global medical technology company. As a Staff Data Engineer, you will design and evolve the data platform powering BD Connected Care's AI initiatives, building scalable pipelines, models, and governance for trusted data.

This hands-on leader will set engineering standards, drive data quality and governance, and steer architecture decisions. You will collaborate with engineering, product, and clinical teams to deliver data solutions that advance patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of data engineering experience with end-to-end ownership of production pipelines and data models.
• Architectural ownership beyond a single team: setting standards and driving technical decisions.
• Expert SQL: query authoring, optimization, partitioning, distribution keys, window functions.
• Production experience with AWS data services: S3, Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, Athena, and streaming or CDC via Kinesis, MSK, or DMS.
• Python proficiency for pipeline code with strong software-engineering habits: tests, code review, CI.
• Hands-on feature engineering experience for ML: dataset versioning and reproducibility.

Responsibilities

• Own data architecture for AI workflows including warehouse, lake, and serving layers.
• Ingest data from multiple BD sources into analytics and ML data layers, batch and streaming.
• Design schemas in cloud data warehouse and lake for forecasting and analytics.
• Build reconciled histories aligning events across systems with different cadences.
• Implement data quality contracts, automated validation, and anomaly detection.
• Ensure operational health: SLAs, monitoring, and incident response.
• Uphold HIPAA and PHI handling with proper lineage and access controls.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate with ML engineers on feature engineering.
