Job summary

Coverys in the Washington, DC area seeks a Lead Data Architect to design and evolve an enterprise data platform, enabling trusted analytics and decision-making across underwriting, claims, actuarial, and finance.

You will lead data modeling, ELT/ETL development, Snowflake optimization, and governance initiatives, mentoring teams and partnering with business stakeholders to deliver scalable data assets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
• 5-10 years of data architecture and data engineering, with technical leadership.
• Strong data modeling expertise (conceptual, logical, physical).
• Hands-on experience designing enterprise data architecture.
• Advanced ELT/ETL development experience, preferably cloud-native.
• Deep experience with cloud data warehouses, ideally Snowflake.
• Proficiency in Python for data engineering and automation.
• Strong SQL skills for large-scale data processing.
• Experience with data quality frameworks, metadata management, and lineage.
• Insurance industry experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and maintenance of the enterprise data architecture aligned to business domains.
• Define standards for data modeling, data quality, naming conventions, metadata, lineage.
• Partner with stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable data structures.
• Lead ELT/ETL pipelines using cloud-native tools and frameworks.
• Migrate from legacy batch processes to automated ingestion patterns.
• Optimize Snowflake workloads for performance, cost, and reliability.
• Mentor the data engineering team and provide technical direction.
• Define data governance and guardrails for security and observability.
• Evaluate emerging data technologies and run proofs of concepts.
