Job summary

TRM Labs is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for Data Infrastructure (RDBMS). You will own the petabyte-scale Postgres-based data platform, focusing on query performance, cost optimization, and reliable replication.

The role emphasizes AI-assisted analysis, automation of routine tasks, and collaboration with cross-functional teams across the US/Canada. The ideal candidate has extensive PostgreSQL experience, strong SQL optimization, and a track record of translating AI insights into production

Qualifications

• 5-8 years building and operating production PostgreSQL (Citus, Aurora, AlloyDB, or equivalent distributed Postgres).
• Deep SQL optimization skills (Explain Plans, CTEs, window functions, partitioning, index design).
• Hands-on experience with CDC tools (PeerDB, Fivetran, Debezium, Datastream, Airbyte).
• Fluency with database profiling (pganalyze) to interpret metrics and logs, incl. using LLMs.
• Production automation experience in Python or Go, including agentic automation of routine tasks (Postgres extension a plus).
• Daily use of AI coding tools (Claude, Copilot) to accelerate development with good judgment.
• Track record of AI-assisted analysis to drive cost or performance improvements in production DB.

Responsibilities

• Keep APIs fast and available by tuning queries and designing indexes for petabyte-scale Postgres/Citus.
• Cut storage and compute costs using AI-assisted analysis and validated production changes.
• Automate routine DB operations (pgbouncer provisioning, disk scaling, blue-green deployments).
• Ensure data integrity and latency through agentic validation of DB changes before production.
• Manage CDC pipelines (PeerDB, Fivetran, Debezium) and debug replication failures with AI tooling.
• Prototype new data stores and migrate workloads off older infra.
• Codify workflows into AI-native runbooks and reusable internal tooling.
