Overview:
Supports executive leadership and Vice Presidents on the Data Governance Council to drive the data governance program across the enterprise. Helps lead and coordinate major initiatives supporting Sentara's strategic goals and enterprise data services. Provides guidance on developing data governance domains, establishing data stewardship roles, metadata management, business glossaries, and critical data elements. Coordinates with teams including cybersecurity, privacy, and compliance to promote data security, transparency, and accountability. Plays a key role in developing and administering enterprise-level data governance functions.

Preferred domain knowledge includes: data governance practices, business analysis, project management, metadata management, data catalog and stewardship management, data policy and standards, business process flow management, data mapping, process improvement, data visualization, analytic programming, database management (including MDM, data quality, ETL, storage, cloud computing), and experience with electronic medical records, billing, claims, and financial systems. Business acumen in healthcare finance, operations, management, and marketing.

Responsibilities:
  1. Creating and utilizing documents such as data mappings, dictionaries, glossaries, stewardship, critical data elements, and data lineage, supporting their implementation in a data governance platform.
  2. Developing and implementing documentation including policies, manuals, standards, and process flows to support data governance.
  3. Spearheading proof of concepts for new features and strategizing their enterprise rollout.
  4. Collaborating with SMEs to create data domains, products, identify data stewards, and develop governance artifacts.
  5. Updating and validating descriptions for data sources, tables, and columns.
  6. Developing reports to monitor metadata health from governance platforms.
  7. Managing operational support for data collection, scanning, and access management.
  8. Leading the data stewardship practice rollout with training and content support.
  9. Supporting policy management in coordination with compliance, privacy, and security teams.
  10. Ensuring activities align with governance policies and procedures.
  11. Supporting governance council and committee discussions.
  12. Leading SharePoint releases for data governance initiatives.

Education:
  • Bachelor's in Computer and Information Science or Health Information Management with a focus on data management (Required).
  • Master's preferred; 2+ years of experience may substitute.

Certification/Licensure:
  • No specific requirements.

Experience:
  • 5+ years healthcare experience.
  • 5+ years database experience.
  • 5+ years experience with data governance platforms like Purview, Collibra, Alation.
  • 5+ years with SQL Server, Databricks, Azure Synapse.
  • 3+ years in business analysis, project management, training roles.
  • 3+ years with Service Management and Agile tools.
  • Data quality experience is a plus.

We offer competitive compensation including base pay, incentives, and benefits. The hourly rate ranges from $43.95 to $73.26, with additional incentives possible.
