Job summary

Block is seeking a Data Engineer to design and optimize data models, pipelines, and AI-driven tooling across Cash App, Square, and Afterpay. You will work with compliance and risk teams to enable data-driven decisions and scalable datasets spanning multiple products.

You will build monitoring for data quality, partner with product and engineering teams, and contribute to automated, end-to-end solutions while maintaining SLAs and scalable architectures.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of related experience with degree; or 8 years with Master’s.
• Proficient in SQL, Python, and Dbt.
• Experience designing medium-to-large data engineering solutions and lifecycle ownership.
• Experience with ETL scheduling tools like Airflow or Prefect.
• Experience in schema design and dimensional data modeling.
• Experience with data quality and data lineage monitoring.
• Experience with AI-driven automation in data pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Lead creation and optimization of data models and AI code generation across datasets.
• Standardize metric definitions and develop data dictionaries and docs.
• Build monitoring for data quality and lineage; develop AI agents for false positives and auto-resolution.
• Participate in on-call rotations; diagnose and fix critical pipelines to meet SLAs; automate this via AI agents.
• Collaborate with non-technical partners to translate requirements into automated end-to-end solutions.
