Job summary

Karoo Health is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join our engineering team in Pittsburgh or remotely within the U.S. You will design scalable data systems, build complex pipelines, and drive data quality and governance for value-based care analytics.

Applicants should have 5+ years in data engineering, expertise in SQL and Python/Scala, and hands-on experience with Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, and Airflow. HIPAA/HITRUST familiarity is a plus.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of professional data engineering experience.
• Strong SQL and at least one data processing language (Python or Scala).
• Experience with data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift) and data lake tech (S3, Delta Lake).
• Hands-on with Spark or Dask; cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
• Experience with Airflow or AWS Step Functions for workflows.
• Direct experience integrating with EMR/EHR platforms (eClinicalWorks, Athena, Epic) is a plus.
• Bachelor's degree in CS, SE, or related field, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Design and architect data systems for reliability, scalability, and security.
• Develop core healthcare data models leveraging TUVA, OMOP, and FHIR standards.
• Build and maintain production data pipelines processing large healthcare datasets.
• Ensure data quality, governance, and HIPAA/HITRUST compliance.
• Optimize performance with query tuning, indexing, and partitioning.
• Collaborate on cloud infrastructure and EMR/EHR integrations.
