Job summary

Todyl, based in Denver, CO, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Data Engineering, to own data ingestion and storage systems for real-time analytics. You will design and operate pipelines from multiple sources through Kafka-compatible streaming into Quickwit and ClickHouse, ensuring scalability, reliability, and accurate data at scale.

You will mentor engineers, orchestrate end-to-end projects, and work closely with AI/ML teams to deliver fast, correct queries while shaping the data platform

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience
• Experience building and operating data infrastructure in production
• Strong Go or Python programming skills
• Strong SQL skills
• Experience with high data volume
• Experience with streaming/analytics stores (ClickHouse, Quickwit, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch) is a plus

Responsibilities

• Design and implement data ingestion pipelines from multiple sources through Kafka-compatible streaming into Quickwit and ClickHouse for real-time analytics, search, and visualization.
• Own complex features and end-to-end projects from ambiguous task to production, with milestones and accurate epic estimates.
• Design and tune storage layer including index and table design, partitioning, retention, and query performance.
• Build monitoring, alerting, and debugging into designs to catch correctness and freshness issues early.
• Participate in on-call rotation, resolve issues independently, and follow through on incidents and toil.
• Partner with AI/ML and product teams during design phase to deliver fast, correct data queries.
• Mentor engineers through pairing, design reviews, and code reviews; drive design reviews.
• Actively reduce technical debt across multiple projects and take initiative on important work.
• Treat code review and testing as quality levers; ensure testable systems with coverage and dashboards to verify changes.
• Run retrospectives, document patterns, and create onboarding materials to speed up future work.
