Job summary

CoStar Group in Arlington, VA is seeking a Senior Data Engineer (SQL Server) to design data models, build scalable data pipelines, and optimize large financial datasets. You will work across Databricks, Snowflake, and AWS to support live operations and analytics.

The role emphasizes hands-on data engineering, performance tuning, data quality, and governance while collaborating with Software Engineering, Product, DBA, DevOps, and Finance teams. Hybrid on-site with some remote flexibility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required from an accredited university or college (CS/SE/IS preferred).
• 5+ years in data/ backend engineering with data-intensive systems.
• Advanced SQL with strong Python/Scala/Java programming skills.
• 3+ years with SQL Server or PostgreSQL, including query/index tuning.
• 2+ years building production pipelines on Databricks/Spark.
• Experience with dimensional modeling and data warehousing.
• Experience with Airflow or NiFi in production.
• Experience with software engineering practices: VCS, tests, CI/CD.

Responsibilities

• Design and build data models and pipelines on Databricks, Snowflake, and AWS.
• Develop high-volume ETL/ELT pipelines for analytics and reporting.
• Create dimensional models for fast, predictable queries.
• Tune SQL Server workloads including procedures and indexes.
• Integrate data from multiple sources into governed enterprise models.
• Build data quality, lineage, testing, monitoring, and observability frameworks.
• Optimize processing and storage of large datasets and cost controls.
• Apply SOX and audit controls to data pipelines.
