Job summary

American Family Insurance seeks a Senior Data Engineer to guide the AI Platform team in Madison, WI. You will oversee engineers delivering scalable AI services and tooling, reporting to a Senior Manager, Data Engineering, in a hybrid flex office role.

You will architect enterprise AI capabilities, advance model deployment, observability, and CI/CD, while ensuring reliability and governance across the AI ecosystem. Relocation support is offered for eligible candidates.

Qualifications

• Deep software engineering fundamentals with large codebases and enterprise SDLC.
• Hands-on experience with LLMs in production, including evaluation and tooling.
• Strong system design skills focused on scalability and maintainability.
• Experience with GCP Vertex AI, Pub/Sub, BigQuery and NoSQL databases.
• Kubernetes experience for container orchestration and workload management.
• Proven track record delivering AI/ML systems in production at scale.

Responsibilities

• Partner with leaders to translate opportunities into scalable AI solutions.
• Architect and build enterprise AI platform capabilities for organization-wide use.
• Establish reusable patterns and shared services including LLM infra and CI/CD.
• Drive technical excellence: standards for architecture, testing, security and reliability.
• Evaluate and modernize existing AI/ML solutions for performance and value.
• Collaborate across engineering, architecture, product, and business teams.
• Champion platform reliability, observability, and operational readiness.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, standards and governance.
