Job summary

Amazon Development Center U.S., Inc. in Seattle seeks a Senior Data Engineer to own 3–5 data domains end‑to‑end, operate hundreds of pipelines, and drive architectural improvements that empower AWS leadership to make informed decisions.

You will partner with service teams to design data contracts, ingestion flows, and deliver analytical models that serve the entire organization. Proficiency in SQL, ETL, and cloud data services including AWS EMR, Glue, Redshift, and Lambda is essential.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of data engineering experience.
• Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines.
• Experience with SQL.
• Experience in at least one modern scripting or programming language, such as Python, Java, Scala, or NodeJS.
• Experience mentoring team members on best practices.
• Experience with MPP databases such as Amazon Redshift.
• Experience building/operating highly available data systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify limitations and opportunities in data processing tools and drive improvements.
• Define and own data architecture at the team level, balancing short-term needs and long-term goals.
• Produce exemplary, reusable, secure and scalable code for customers and teams.
• Define and own infrastructure architecture, anticipate data management and access patterns.
• Solve complex ambiguous problems by designing cross-domain data models.
• Split project work into parallel tasks and drive to completion with dependencies.
• Influence data architecture and software design across teams and mentor others.
• Drive data engineering best practices, security and operational excellence.
• Proactively fix data architecture deficiencies and drive improvements via reviews and planning.
• Participate in on-call rotation and maintain data system reliability.
