Qualifications

• Experience designing modular dbt projects and writing clean SQL.
• Design scalable pipelines using workflow orchestration tools like Airflow.
• Proficient Python for pipeline logic, operators, and tooling.
• Strong understanding of point-in-time correctness and data freshness bounds.
• Experience optimizing queries and cloud costs in BigQuery or similar environments.
• Hands-on IaC with Terraform or Pulumi.
• Reliability mindset with data SLA awareness and post-mortems.
• Ability to translate requirements into data contracts for partners.

Responsibilities

About the Role

The AI Growth team builds the systems making JET's marketplace relevant for millions of customers. We develop JET's foundation model platform, serving embedding models and targeting systems for personalized offers.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will own our core data foundations. You will deliver reliable, scalable pipelines from schema design to SLA monitoring, making a lasting impact on our ecosystem.

By partnering with data scientists and ML engineers, you will care for our customer-centric data needs and lead the transition to streaming-capable architectures through collaborative teamwork.

Key Components of the Position

• Own the Data foundations: Design and maintain feature pipelines and datasets feeding JET's foundation model platform while ensuring freshness SLAs.
• Drive Platform Excellence: Keep pipelines reliable by leading incident responses, tracking cloud spend, and implementing observability to prevent silent failures.
• Collaborative Mentorship: Mentor engineers through code reviews and design discussions, helping one another succeed and raising the engineering bar.
• Aim High on Architectures: Introduce streaming-aware and incremental patterns, balancing engineering complexity with cost, latency, and performance.

What Will You Bring to the Team?

• SQL and dbt Mastery: Track record of designing modular, multi-layer dbt projects and writing clean, maintainable SQL.
• Pipeline Design & Orchestration: Ability to design scalable pipelines from first principles using workflow orchestration tools like Airflow.
• Python Proficiency: Experience writing clean, testable Python for pipeline logic, custom operators, and tooling.
• Feature Engineering for ML: Strong understanding of point-in-time correctness, train/serve symmetry, and data freshness bounds.
• Cloud Infrastructure & Optimization: Experience managing query performance and cloud costs in BigQuery or comparable environments.
• Infrastructure as Code: Hands-on experience defining cloud infrastructure programmatically using tools like Terraform or Pulumi.
• Reliability Engineering: Commitment to treating missed data SLAs as business impacts, adding preventative tests, and writing post-mortems.
• Partner Collaboration: Ability to translate requirements into data contracts and communicate schema changes to internal partners.

Advanced Data Capabilities (Bonus)

Familiarity with streaming frameworks, LLM fine-tuning pipelines, or managed ML training platforms.
