Position Summary
Healthrise is seeking a hands-on Senior Data Engineer who will work closely with healthcare product owners, consultants, and technologies to design and deliver innovative enterprise software solutions. This position is responsible for the architecture, development, and optimization of data ingestion pipelines, transformation processes, and delivery layers that power our analytics and applications. The ideal candidate has experience in healthcare data and modern cloud-based technologies (Databricks, Azure Data Factory, SQL, Python) and thrives in an agile, collaborative environment.

Duties And Responsibilities
Data Architecture & Engineering
- Design, develop, and expand scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using Databricks, Azure Data Factory, and other Azure services
- Build and maintain robust data models and database procedures to support analytics and .NET application development
- Create APIs and table services to enable secure, scalable data delivery to downstream systems
- Assist with deployment and implementation of ingestion pipelines into production environments
- Implement automation solutions including data transfer, processing, and loading to various environments
Cloud Infrastructure & Tooling
- Develop and optimize solutions within a modern cloud data stack (e.g. Azure, Databricks)
- Partner with DevOps/IT Ops teams to ensure CI/CD, automation, and infrastructure as a code are well integrated across data platforms
Data Quality & Governance
- Establish best practices for data testing, validation, and observability to ensure accurate and trusted datasets
- Collaborate on data lineage, cataloging, and documentation efforts to support governance and compliance
- Work with data architects, data scientists, and business analysts to perform master data management and meta data management
Collaboration & Enablement
- Work closely with data scientists, BI analysts, customer success, and product teams to gather requirements and deliver clean, high-performance datasets
- Provide technical mentorship and code reviews to junior data engineers and analysts
- Collaborate in the design, upgrade, and optimization of reporting structures for product suite and analytical projects
Innovation & Continuous Learning
- Stay informed on emerging data technologies and evaluate opportunities to improve scalability, cost-efficiency, and performance
- Proactively identify technical debt and/or architectural risks and propose solutions to address them
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, ideally in a healthcare or enterprise data environment, which includes designing ETL pipelines and managing large-scale data systems
- Advanced proficiency in Databricks, SQL, Azure Data Factory, and Python
- Deep experience with modern data stack tools (e.g., Databricks, Azure Data Factory, dbt)
- Familiarity with healthcare data formats and domains (e.g. HL7, X12 files such as 835/837)
- Strong understanding of data modeling concepts
- Hands-on experience working in a cloud environment (Azure preferred, AWS/GCP acceptable)
- Excellent communication skills and a strong track record of cross-functional collaboration
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a HIPAA-compliant or healthcare-regulated environment
- Familiarity with data governance frameworks and security practices
- Experience with containerized deployers (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Previous consulting or client-facing experience
