Job summary

OpenAI, Inc. seeks an experienced Data Center Electrical R&D Engineer to develop and validate next-generation power architectures for high-density AI infrastructure. You will lead research, design, modeling, prototyping, and validation, translating compute requirements into robust power systems.

You will work with AI hardware, mechanical, controls, and external partners to create reusable reference designs from concept to pilot tests and scaled deployment.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of electrical engineering and data-center infrastructure experience.
• Strong expertise in medium- and low-voltage distribution and power delivery.
• Proven ability to design for high-availability facilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop advanced electrical architectures for high-density AI data centers from utility interconnection through rack-level delivery.
• Model performance, capacity, efficiency, reliability, fault conditions, and transient behavior.
• Lead prototypes, pilots, validation programs, and field testing of new architectures.
• Collaborate with mechanical, controls, AI hardware, and operations teams to optimize integrated power/cooling.
• Document design decisions, operating envelopes, and deployment guidance.
