Job summary

ABB is seeking a Data Center Sr. PLC Technician to lead on-site field activities, troubleshoot, and guide junior staff across mission-critical paralleling switchgear and controls.

This role requires extensive nationwide travel, strong communication with customers, and the ability to manage complex commissioning tasks. The candidate will deliver technical leadership from pre-startup through commissioning, support safety and change-control practices, and coordinate with project teams and design

Qualifications

• Must have 7+ years field experience with high school diploma or 5+ years with associate/bachelor degree.
• Independent capability to lead highly complex field assignments.
• Experience with startup, commissioning, energization, and switching coordination.
• Ability to read and redline complex electrical/control drawings.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and execute complex field assignments for paralleling switchgear and PLC/Relay transfer schemes.
• Lead testing of emergency/standby power systems and coordination with utility and generator controls.
• Configure, verify, and troubleshoot generator controls, PLCs, HMIs, and communications.
• Perform advanced PLC ladder logic modifications and verification.
• Establish and troubleshoot Modbus, PLC-to-PLC, remote PLC, and SCADA communications.
• Interpret one-line diagrams, schematics, and sequencing documents.
• Lead on-site technical execution and coordinate daily work and risk management.
• Mentor junior field engineers and technicians on safe execution and documentation.
• Serve as senior escalation resource for remote and on-site troubleshooting.
• Complete field service reports, checklists, backups, and status updates for customers.
• Protect assets, control costs, and identify optimization opportunities.
• Build customer relationships by translating technical findings into actionable plans.
