ABB Inc. is seeking a Data Center Sr. PLC Technician to lead field assignments for paralleling switchgear and PLC controls in mission-critical power applications.

You will mentor junior staff, coordinate on-site activities, and serve as a technical contact for customers, contractors, and project teams. Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 7+ years of field experience, or an associate/bachelor degree with 5+ years in a related field.
• Ability to handle highly complex field assignments.
• Advanced experience with low- and medium-voltage switchgear, circuit breakers, relays, generator controls, PLC-based controls, HMIs/ACS, industrial networking, and mission-critical power systems.
• Extensive experience leading startup/commissioning, power-up operations, and coordinating multi-person site teams.
• Ability to read electrical/control drawings and apply engineering methods on site.
• Strong problem-solving, reporting, client communication, and field coordination skills.
• Willingness to travel extensively across the United States and stay at customer sites as needed.

Responsabilités

• Plan and execute complex field assignments for paralleling switchgear and PLC/Relay transfer schemes during all project phases.
• Lead testing of emergency/standby power systems, including open/closed transitions and load management scenarios.
• Configure and troubleshoot generator controls, protective relays, and PLC/ACS communications.
• Perform advanced troubleshooting and authorized PLC modifications using engineering documentation.
• Establish and troubleshoot Modbus and PLC-to-PLC/remote communications with customers.
• Interpret one-line diagrams, schematics, and commissioning procedures.
• Lead on-site execution, coordinate daily work, manage punch-lists, and ensure on-time, on-budget completion.
• Mentor junior field engineers and technicians; provide coaching on safe execution and documentation.
• Act as senior escalation resource for remote/on-site troubleshooting and emergency response.
• Prepare field service reports, startup checklists, redlines, and customer status updates.
• Protect assets, control costs, and identify opportunities to improve quality and delivery.
• Build strong customer relationships by translating complex findings into actionable plans.
